Joyful Expectations
Joyful Expectations of Good Things to Come
If you raise your level of expectation, you will raise your level of experience.
The things we are believing for matter. Too often we are actually expecting things to go badly, because of past experiences or because of preconceived ideas.
If you are always waiting for the next shoe to drop, you’ll live in a world of dropping shoes.
Mark 11:24
It’s not what you pray for that matters. It’s what you believe for that matters. We often pray for things because we’ve been trained to. It’s the Christian thing to do. You pray about it. Our health, finances, relationships, everything. But do we expect things to change? “I’m still praying about…” It’s good you’re still praying, but the problem is you stopped believing. Our fear develops out of the thought that we don’t want to get our hopes up because we might get hurt.
Explain Judges 6:1-10
Judges 6:11-27
Gideon is on the move. Something is beginning to change in Gideon. Hope is rising! You will never have joyful expectations if you lose your hope.
Judges 6:28-34
He went from hiding behind winepresses to blowing trumpets. Why? Because he believed and raised an expectation of good things to come!
How many know, doubt still tries to find it’s way in to your mind?
Judges 6:35-37
I believe Gideon trusted God, but didn’t trust his own abilities. He had faith in God, he just didn’t have faith in Gideon.(faith in himself) Gideon was building a history with God.
Judges 6:38-40
Gideon used a fleece. (Old Covenant) You have Holy Spirit living inside you!
Judges 7 starts out with Gideon rallying an army of 32,000 men and God saying that’s too many. 22,000 go home, leaving 10,000 too many, gets it down to 300, that’ll work!
Judges 7:9-15
That’s a crazy dream! And interpretation!
Psalm 71:14-21
We’ve Got The Power!
We’ve Got The Power
Acts 1:4-8
The same group who betrayed him, denied him, and ran in fear, would become bold, fearless, and turn the world upside down. What was the difference? His name is Holy Spirit!
This is the “Gift of the Father”
You’ll receive POWER!
When we say we look like his disciples, is that before or after Pentecost?
Witnesses testify…. When asked to testify, tell what you know!
The Great Commission was to go and make disciples. But Jesus told them, before you go, wait for the promise of the Father. Making true disciples is an impossible task on your own. You need the power of the Holy Spirit.
God has actually asked you to do something bigger than yourself.(except the spirit draw him)
Why aren’t more people filled with the Holy Spirit? Love God, thankful for the blood of Jesus, not so sure about Holy Spirit!
Maybe, we don’t know who He really is. We don’t really know his function, or what he does. Too weird, or if I get too much, others will think I’m weird!
How many, honestly, have been weirded out by some stuff you’ve seen in church over the years??? Some strange things happen in church! Slain in the spirit; first time somebody took a lap! Dancing in the Spirit….
We NEED the Holy Spirit, present and active in our church and in our lives.
I don’t want to live without His leading, guidance, power or anointing!
We need to have a noticeable difference because of the presence and power of the Holy Spirit!
Holy Spirit got a bad rap, people got scary, crazy, weird ideas about him. We’re the charismatic, pentecostal people. We’re doing our community a huge disservice if we’re living below our reputation! We’re those people!
Talk to people… “Are there snakes???” Swing from chandeliers? Run the pews?
We don’t need snakes chandeliers and pews,…. But we do need power!
People need to experience God in his house!
We need to be walking in Holy Ghost Power
Acts 2:22-24; 36-37
Peter who was hiding is now on his soapbox
This is more than just a good sermon. (The church is inundated with good sermons from podcasts, youtube, videos, and TV) This is Holy Ghost Power!!! Peter denied Jesus when he was being warmed by the fire, but now he’s proclaiming Jesus because he’s carrying the fire!
Acts 3:1-10
Then he preaches another kingdom message!
Acts 4:1-14
Once you’ve had an encounter, you can’t stay the same!
They’re threatened and let go, and God is glorified in the miracle and they go back and pray.
Acts 4:31
There’s an initial baptism, but many fillings!
Acts 5:14-16
This is the result of true Holy Ghost Power.
Acts 8:4-8; 14-17
RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT!!!
Luke 11:13
If you then being evil know how to give good gifts to your children;
How much more should your Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask of Him?
2 Timothy 1:6
Stir up the gift that’s in you by the laying on of my hands.
Living the Victorious Christian Life Through the Love of God!
Living the Victorious Christian Life Through the Love of God!
John 3:16
The WORLD… He didn’t say the church, the saved, or those who follow Jesus. He said the whole world. (Kosmos… The inhabitants of the Earth, men, the human family) That means God loves the drug addict, prostitute, and transgender the same way He loves me. These are just lost sons and daughters who don’t know who they were created to be yet.
The truth is, there are a lot of successful people who don’t know who they were created to be, God didn’t call you to live successful, he called you to live victorious!
Many have sacrificed “victorious” on the altar of “success”. We are called to live VICTORIOUS!
Leif preached about a God who looks like Jesus, but some have created a god who looks more like Ben Franklin ($100) sacrificed God time for overtime. Gave in to the “Time Bandits”
If the enemy can’t destroy you, he’ll distract you. Those distractions often look like success. But it’s not victory! Victorious is more important than successful.
We are called to overcome… that’s the victorious life! Eat of the Tree of Life; Eat of the hidden manna, white stone and a new name; Give power over the nations; sit with Me on my throne.
That’s the victorious life!
Matthew 3:13- 4:11
The temptations that Jesus faced were Identity, Performance, and Integrity.
The only way to overcome these challenges consistently is by receiving the Love of the Father and walking in that love. Knowing your vertical relationship is the foundation to all the horizontal relationships.
John 17:20-23
This is my favorite new revelation…. He loves me just as He loves Jesus!
I am LOVED by God!
Matthew 22:36-40
Even though this is in your New Testament, it’s still under the Old Covenant.
John 13:34-35
Under an old covenant, the best you could do is to love your neighbor the same way you love yourself. But now Jesus is raising the bar, and under the New Covenant, because we have received the Love of the Father, we now can Love like Jesus!
You cannot live a victorious life and harbor unforgiveness! You cannot live a victorious life and be prejudiced against others. You cannot live a victorious life and have hatred in your heart. To walk out a victorious life, you must determine “My ability to love you has to be greater than your ability to hurt me!”
Gifts may fool you for a while, but fruit never lies!!! Is the fruit of living a victorious life evident in your life today?
